With the highest search activity in the U.S. for April, Atlanta rental hunters added twice as many listings to their favorites list compared with this time last year, according to RentCafe’s April Rental Activity Report.
The report measures the number of available apartments each month in a city and how many renters are searching for rentals there compared with one year ago. RentCafe also tracks renters’ intent as the number of saved personalized searches and favorited apartments are factored in.
Following Atlanta in high search and listing activity is Kansas City, Missouri, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Compared with March, the two climbed 18 and 27 positions, respectively, in April because of the cities’ highest page views on properties.
Leaping 84 spots, Detroit ranks fourth with the largest jump in rankings from March. At eight times more apartment saves than a year ago, Manhattan completes the top five.
The report finds that Northeastern cities are popular with renters as the region claims five spots on the top 30 list, while cities like Philadelphia, Boston, and Chicago are seeing a surge in rental activity with more favorites, saved searches, and high demand resulting in decreased supply.
The top 10 for April is rounded out by Denver; Arlington, Virginia; Memphis, Tennessee; Orlando, Florida; and Durham, North Carolina.
