Mercer Mass Timber (MMT), a manufacturer of sustainable timber building materials and a subsidiary of Mercer International, and CLT Toolbox, a structural design software platform specifically for mass timber buildings, are collaborating to advance mass timber design and adoption in North America.
According to the firms, the strategic partnership is a step toward making mass timber a mainstream construction material by connecting digital workflows with real-world manufacturing capabilities. Touted as one of the first integrations of its kind in North America, the firms noted that it signals a broader shift toward digitized, scalable mass timber construction. The partnership allows engineers to specify MMT’s cross-laminated timber and glulam products within the CLT Toolbox platform, embedding code-compliant products into design workflows.
“Our collaboration with CLT Toolbox is about facilitating digital design in the realities of mass timber fabrication,” said Ricard Brites, director of engineering and VDC at Mercer Mass Timber. “It’s a smart, integrated, and accessible approach—and exactly the kind of alignment the industry needs.”
The firms highlighted how the integration will provide benefits, including improving cost predictability, compliance, and timelines for many partners, including architects and developers focused on multifamily housing, throughout the building life cycle.
“CLT Toolbox is a game-changer for multifamily housing. It streamlines code-compliant timber design with manufacturer-aligned product data, helping engineers make faster and DfMA-compliant decisions,” Brites said. “By aligning design logic with supplier-available materials, the platform supports more affordable, sustainable, and scalable housing, delivered at the pace communities need.”
Adam Jones, CEO and founder of CLT Toolbox, added that technical bottlenecks are holding back low-carbon construction. “Once we remove those, mass timber has everything it needs to lead the future of building.”
