When Alphonso Jackson resigned as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in April, the housing industry took a collective deep breath. A month later, the dust is settling in the aftermath of his departure, and developers and housing authorities across the country are unsure what the future holds.
The editors of MULTIFAMILY EXECUTIVE wanted to offer insight into the source of the controversy in hopes of enlightening our readers as HUD enters a new era. In his first in-depth interview following Jackson’s resignation, Philadelphia Housing Authority’s Carl R. Greene tells a compelling tale of alleged favoritism, retaliation, and inappropriate conduct by a major government agency. Our detailed investigation illuminates the problems at HUD and considers what the future now holds for the agency.
