Ross Cos. named its first CEO in the company’s 23-year history this week.

The Bethesda, Md.–based firm, which operates throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, appointed David J. Miskovich as chief executive officer. Miskovich had previously served as the company’s COO and CFO for the past 13 years.

The new title for Miskovich comes at a time when Ross seeks to expand its presence outside of Washington, D.C. Last year, Ross opened a new office in Richmond, Va., where it now manages more than 1,300 units. The company also expanded into North and South Carolina, where it manages roughly 1,100 units in the former and 315 units in the latter.
The co-founders—and husband-and-wife team—will remain in their current roles. Scott Ross will continue to lead Ross Development & Investment and serve as chairman and president of Ross Renovation & Construction, and Beth Ross will continue as president of Ross Management Services.

“We want to make sure Ross Cos. is positioned to continue the success and high performance we’ve experienced since our founding in 1983,” Beth Ross said in a statement. “We engaged in an extremely thorough and deliberate process, assembling an outstanding group of leaders and implementing practices, such as shared decision making among our talented leadership team, to prepare for the future. With David now serving as our CEO, Ross Cos. remains strong and is poised for continued growth.”

Miskovich shares mutual admiration for his company’s leaders.

“I am deeply honored and tremendously excited to be named CEO of Ross Cos.,” Miskovich said. “Beth and Scott have assembled an incredibly hardworking team rich in multifamily expertise and experience, and I look forward to working with them to continue expanding upon their success.”
