The judges of this year’s awards had a tall order, to say the least.
More than 200 nominations were received and carefully weighed, and pound for pound, the quality was so great that there were few, if any, runaway winners. And that’s good news for all of us, even those who weren’t chosen, because in many ways, our annual awards serve as a bellwether. Many of last year’s winners were characterized by financing challenges brought on by the recession, for instance. But this year’s crop shows that the industry has returned to full health. The following pages highlight some of the smartest and most stunning communities this industry has ever produced, and prove that the apartment business is about so much more than bricks and sticks—it’s about passion, creativity, and vision.
