Greystar, the largest apartment operator in the United States and one of the largest developers, has started construction on its first-ever residential development in Portland, Ore. The as-yet-unnamed community will be located in Portland’s Goose Hollow neighborhood and will consist of 182 apartments and approximately 8,000 square feet of retail space.

After Seattle, Portland marks Greystar’s second point of expansion into the Pacific Northwest region.

“As the burgeoning city of Portland evolves in its wide array of job offerings and housing demands, we are thrilled to begin construction and bring to market our first of, hopefully, many great projects for local area residents,” says Aaron Keeler, senior director of development at Greystar for the Pacific Northwest.

The eight-story community, designed by SERA Architects, draws inspiration from New York City’s Flatiron Building. It will include both market-rate and affordable units and is set to open in 2021.

The site is located near light-rail transportation stops, providing access to downtown Portland, as well as Providence Park, Interstate 405, and several bus stops.

“At the heart of Goose Hollow’s best amenities and local entertainment, this community will introduce a modern and eclectic address for future residents looking to live in the center of one of Portland’s most exciting neighborhoods,” says Doug Burges, director of development at Greystar in the Pacific Northwest. “We look forward to celebrating the groundbreaking of this momentous milestone for Greystar and for the neighborhood of Goose Hollow.”
