The pedestrian-focused design of J.Coopers Row offers large 15-foot setbacks and walk-out units that integrate smoothly into the surrounding Washington, D.C., neighborhood. The building, which was developed by Jefferson Apartment Group (JAG) and built by Paradigm Contractors, offers 312 units spanning 12 stories directly across from the Nationals Park baseball stadium and two blocks away from the Navy Yard Metro station.
Echoing the industrial heritage of the former WWII-era James T. Warring Sons factory, rich brick masonry is combined with contemporary glazing for a striking façade. The exterior brick is also brought into the interiors of the building, mixed with softer and warm materials, that were designed by CID Design Group to provide a comfortable experience for residents. Once a surface parking lot with eight late 18th and early 19th century rowhouses, JAG was able to preserve four of the structures. The historic rowhouses were integrated into the new building further meshing the new and old.
