Tucker Tower brings much-needed housing for seniors 62 and older in West Perrine, a neighborhood in southern Miami-Dade County. The 120-unit community serves residents earning at or below 25%, 30%, and 60% of the area median income.
Housing Trust Group (HTG) developed Tucker Tower, in partnership with AM Affordable Housing, a nonprofit spearheaded by NBA Hall of Famer and Miami Heat legend Alonzo Mourning.
“We were able to deliver Tucker Tower, which doesn’t on its own solve the affordable housing crisis in South Florida, but these units solve the crisis for 120 seniors,” says Matthew Rieger, HTG president and CEO.

Designed by Corwil Architects, the eight-story building has a sleek style that implements a contemporary design with clean lines and a minimalist façade. A grand portico extends across the sidewalk to elevate the curb appeal while providing coverage for residents.
Of the 120 one- and two-bedroom units with balconies, six are fully accessible and three are designed for residents with hearing impairments. Units also include Energy Star appliances, contemporary fixtures, and resilient plank flooring.
The amenity spaces have been designed to promote engagement, well-being, and a sense of community. Residents have access to a state-of-the-art fitness center with weight training and cardio equipment, a resort-style swimming pool, a walking path, a modern library, and a multipurpose theater room.
HTG also encourages social interaction and wellness through a variety of events, from bingo nights and movie screenings to literacy training and aerobics classes.
Tucker Tower was primarily financed through low-income housing tax credits. It also received a grant from Miami-Dade County Surtax funding.
“I’m very proud to deliver a property in a market I grew up in,” says Rieger. “It’s named after my son. We put these children out in the world and hope they do good stuff for the community, and Tucker Tower is on the way to doing that.”
