Finding the right next-generation products for your multifamily development can be daunting. In a recent survey, apartment professionals weighed in on the most- and least-important drivers when it comes to selecting these products for their developments.
Respondents ranked overall return on investment as the No. 1 factor (20.8% of respondents) in choosing next-gen products, followed closely by energy efficiency, with 19.5% of respondents ranking it No. 1.
However, improved performance, including durability and reliability, also scored high, with more than half of multifamily professionals—52.2%—ranking it as one of the top three factors driving their use of next-gen products.
Also important for multifamily professionals when selecting next-gen products: the products’ ability to help sell or lease a residence, and the products’ cost.
Product brand name and construction cycle time improvement were cited as the least-important factors in choosing next-gen products.
The study responses were part of a survey conducted by The Farnsworth Group, our data partner on the 2017 MFE Concept Community, examining usage and perceptions regarding next-gen building performance. This year’s survey received online responses from 159 multifamily builders, developers, and architects.
