Bell Partners Expands Senior Personnel

Horace McCormick Jr. joins firm as senior vice president of human resources alongside three interior senior promotions.

Bell Partners has announced a series of senior personnel additions and promotions in support of the company’s ongoing expansion.

Horace McCormick Jr. has been named senior vice president of human resources; Wende Marshburn-Smith and Darren Carrington have each been promoted to senior vice president of operations; and Allison Ray moves up to become senior vice president of investor accounting and finance.

We are also very pleased to recognize the hard work and achievements of our Bell associates Wende Marshburn-Smith, Darren Carrington, and Allison Ray, as they are [each] promoted to senior vice president.”

McCormick previously served as director of executive development at The University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill. In his new role at Bell, he will oversee the company’s human resources strategies, including learning, development, talent management, and employee relations. He has served as an executive development and leadership consulant for many Fortune 500 companies, as well as vice president of human resources with Fidelity Investments; head of talent management for Duke Energy; and senior director of commercial business at Michelin North America.

Carrington joined Bell in early 2017. He has almost three decades of real estate experience, including positions in property management, redevelopment, and asset management at Prometheus Real Estate Group, AvalonBay Communities, and Camden Property Trust. As senior vice president of operations, Carrington will be responsible for operations in the Western region (Colorado, Texas, and the West Coast).

Marshburn-Smith joined Bell in 2008 after 10 years at UDR, a leading apartment REIT, as an area director for North Carolina markets. She has almost 20 years of real estate experience. As senior vice president of operations, Marshburn-Smith will be responsible for operations in the Northeast and parts of North Carolina.

Ray, who joined Bell in 2007, has played a significant role in the development and leadership of Bell’s investor platform, which serves high net-worth clients and domestic and foreign institutions. As senior vice president of investor accounting and finance, Ray will be responsible for investor reporting, finance, investor relations, and fund accounting.

Bell Partners is the 15th-largest apartment operator in the United States, with approximately 60,000 units under management and $1.3 billion in transactions in 2016.
