The launch of Imperium Development is bringing two new Class A multifamily communities to Georgia. Headquartered in Atlanta, the new firm is led by Greg Power and Mike Handza, two real estate development professionals. Over the course of their careers, the duo have managed the development and construction of more than 11,000 apartment units and $1.6 billion in projects in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.

“Greg and I are like-minded individuals who are aligned on creating a best-in-class multifamily development firm that prioritizes accountability, integrity, and relationships,” says Handza. “We have learned from the best what it takes to establish trust among partners, investors, tenants, and communities, and are committed to doing everything we can to produce favorable outcomes and strong risk-adjusted returns. We are excited by the opportunities we have identified and look forward to executing with precision.”

Focusing on sustainable housing in high barrier-to-entry, supply-constrained markets throughout the Southeast and Sun Belt, Imperium’s goal will be to deliver valued products to residents, communities, and investors. The firm has two communities underway.

Both garden-style communities with a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, Walker’s Ridge Apartments in Cartersville will offer 240 units and South David Apartments in LaGrange, 300 units. Each community, slated for completion in 2024, will include high-end interior finishes and amenities.

Before founding Imperium, Power and Handza held leadership positions working closely with industry veteran Ron Terwilliger. Both credit the knowledge gained under Terwillger’s tutelage as instrumental to their careers and decision to launch the new firm.

“We are grateful to everyone who has supported our vision and offered us valuable insights along the way, especially Ron, who could not have been a better mentor,” says Power. “We will continue to put these important lessons into practice as we grow Imperium while infusing ideas and perspectives that Mike and I have developed during our many years working together. We want to create a business that is truly unique, and one that all our stakeholders can be proud of—and we are committed to doing just that.”

Terwilliger comments, “Mike and Greg are consummate professionals who understand what it takes to be successful in this business. Their future is bright, and I look forward to closely following their success.”
