William “Bill” Donges has been appointed president and CEO of Lane Co., a full-service multifamily real estate firm based in Atlanta. His promotion from COO is the result of long-term succession planning for Lane Co., a closely held private firm. “I made this decision in recognition of his profound impact on our success and the future of our endeavors,” says Lane Co. chairman, owner, and outgoing CEO George Lane. “Under [Bill’s] direction, Lane Co. has become a recognized leader of the multifamily industry.”
Multifamily veteran Phil Simmons has joined big home builder John Laing Homes as division president of John Laing Urban, a new division that will focus on high-density housing in Southern California. The company, which will be based in Culver City, Calif., already has plans for a 180-unit condo project above 14,000 square feet of commercial space in Hollywood, Calif. Simmons should feel at home in his new job; he previously served as vice president of development for Archstone-Smith.
Suffolk Construction Co. in Boston has hired Jeffrey Bone as its new vice president of business development. He will be responsible for expanding on Suffolk’s growth in the residential sector, which includes apartment buildings, condominiums, and assisted living facilities. The company also recently added a vice president for business development in the areas of residential and retail: Joe Gallagher, who will focus his attention on projects between $20 million to $90 million.
Carlisle Development Group has named Matthew S. Greer chief operating officer for the company, a large developer of affordable multifamily housing in Florida. In his new role, Greer will oversee the company’s development strategy; overall management of its various operating units including finance, development, and accounting; and a property management division that currently manages more than 6,000 apartment units.
