Weighing 19 relevant metrics, RentCafe has compiled a list of the top 50 cities for remote workers to live happily. Offering the best mix of work and life quality at reasonable costs, primarily cities in the South and Southeast ranked at the top for remote workers to relocate to while getting the most for their money.

Earning high scores in several relevant categories including cost of living, apartment size, share of new apartments, and availability of short-term leases, Greenville, South Carolina, has ranked as the best city for remote workers. Greenville apartments are among the largest in the country, RentCafe reports.

Landing in second, Raleigh, North Carolina’s high-quality apartment availability and 13th highest score for access to broadband internet is possibly why the city has the 14th highest share of remote workers who have already relocated there. Raleigh also was ranked as the second-best city for renters in 2022 by RentCafe.

Moving farther south, West Palm Beach, Florida, is the third city on the list, ranking fourth for air quality and first in the U.S. for internet speed. It is also 14th for its high share of short-term rentals. Tampa, Florida, followed close behind with large apartments, easy access to sports amenities, high rental demand, and a high number of remote workers.

Durham, North Carolina, is the fifth city on the list with a high number of short-rentals, healthy rental demand, and a large share of high-quality apartments. With the largest share of high-quality apartments on the list, Alpharetta, Georgia, ranks sixth overall for remote worker desirability. It also ranks second for largest apartments on the list and third in broadband access.

Huntsville, Alabama; Columbus, Georgia; College Station, Texas; and Rockville, Maryland, round out the top 10 on the list, with additional South and Southeast cities ranking in the top 20 including Round Rock, Texas; Charlotte, North Carolina; Austin, Texas; Jacksonville, Florida; and Conroe, Texas.
