AVA NoMa, a two-time Merit winner in this year’s MFE Awards program, goes beyond just welcoming residents and their fellow furry companions. At the Washington, D.C., property, developer AvalonBay Communities takes pet-friendly living to the next level with its national WAG The Pet program, in which “WAG” stands for the company’s intention to welcome, appreciate, and give back to pet residents at all of its properties.

AVA NoMa comes equipped with its own WAG Pet Spa and WAG Pet Park. The spa has two wash tubs, a drying station, a grooming station, and direct access to the courtyard where the pet park is located. The park, which allows pets to roam and play on dog agility equipment, is lighted for evening use and features bench seating for owners, doggie bag stations, and drinking fountains with low and high access points for both pets and people.

Additionally, AvalonBay has partnered with VCA Animal Hospitals. Through the arrangement, residents are offered discounts on professional veterinary services and supplies. Communities’ resident move-in packets also include a “WAG Around Town Guide,” which highlights local recommendations for dog parks, groomers, vets, and pet stores.

AvalonBay’s properties even publish the WAG Tales Newsletter and host regular pet events, including pet pool parties, “beers and bones,” and “Howl-o-Ween” costume contests.
